About Breakaway

Breakaway is a stock scanner for US stocks at getbreakaway.com. It gives every stock it covers one number, the Quality Score, and ranks them by it.

What the Quality Score measures

The Quality Score starts from 14 chart checks in four groups: trend, volume, tight range, and buying. It then adds or takes away points for the long-term trend, the company's size, and the gain the stock has already made; for profit, sales growth and margins, cash flow, and share dilution, from the company's SEC filings; for big daily swings the business does not back; for news and 8-K filings, insider trades, and trades disclosed by members of Congress and the White House; and for how long the score has held up. Each stock's score carries a plain word: Exceptional is 20 and up, Excellent 15 to 19, Above Average 11 to 14, Average 6 to 10, Below Average 0 to 5, and Poor below zero.

How we rank stocks lists every part and its points.

What it covers

2,958 US-listed stocks today, across the NYSE, Nasdaq, and NYSE American, foreign companies' US shares (ADRs) included. A stock is covered when it trades above one dollar a share, with 300 thousand shares of average daily volume and 50 million dollars of company value. The list is rebuilt every week.

2,055 of them have a public page with the Quality Score, the chart readings traders look for (RSI, MACD, moving averages, support and resistance, Bollinger Bands, and ADX), insider and Congress trades, the earnings record, and the company's industry rank. Every stock page, by sector.

How often it updates

Prices, scores, and chart checks refresh every 15 seconds from 4 AM to 8 PM Eastern, and every five minutes when the market is closed. SEC filings, insider trades, Congress trades, and earnings dates are read through the day as they are filed.

Members see real-time prices. The public pages show prices and scores at least 15 minutes old, and say when they are from.

Where the data comes from

Prices, daily bars, headlines, and short interest come from a licensed market data vendor. Insider trades, notable holders, and company financials come from the SEC's EDGAR: Form 4, 13F, 8-K, and XBRL filings. Congress trades are read from the House Clerk and the Senate's disclosure site, and the president's and vice president's from the Office of Government Ethics.

What it does not do

Breakaway is information, not investment advice. It does not know anyone's situation, recommend buying or selling anything, or manage money, and it is not a broker: nothing is traded through it. It does not cover crypto coins, options, or ETFs.

How to use it
